Hawaiian Culture

The Hawaiian cultural values are at the heart of, and form the foundation for, our vision. Historically from Hi‘iakaikapoliopele’s journey to Kahuku to successive waves of immigration and even to the visitor today, the Hawaiian cultural values of aloha, lōkahi, kuleana, and mālama i ka ‘āina have embraced those who live in and visit this community. Prior to western contact, legends tell us that from Kawela to Kahuku point the fishing was abundant along the coast because of the fresh water streams flowing into the bays. The area was also abundant in hala groves. This was a vibrant and thriving community that sustained itself by the valuable resources found on the land, water, and ocean of the numerous ahupua‘a that Turtle Bay Resort now lies within. Like the Hawaiian stewards of yesterday, Turtle Bay Resort will strive to be the stewards of tomorrow.
